We Were Desperate

Short Film | Horror | Drama

In a world overrun by flesh-eating “banshees", two strangers must traverse a decimated landscape in order to reach a safe haven before night falls.

Director’s Statement

We Were Desperate is the first short film I've written and directed, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. I've always loved zombies, and works such as "The Walking Dead", "Train to Busan", and "The Crazies" greatly inspired my love for the zombie and horror genres.

But I wanted to tell my own story... in my own zombie world. I wanted to tell a story of desperation and how far humans are willing to go save the ones they love. We Were Desperate is a film about savagery and survival in a world that's crumbled and overrun by infected, ravenous monsters. When viewers see this film, I want them to be challenged and ask themselves, "would I make the same choices? What would I be willing to do for the ones I love? How far would I go? Do I cast aside my morality and commit horrendous acts just to stay alive?"

We Were Desperate was filmed on location in Chesterfield and Richmond, VA in the summer of 2019 on a very small budget. The first day we started shooting was one of the hottest days on record in Chesterfield, VA in 2019, with a heat index of 115 degrees. We spent hours applying makeup, we got cut by branches, some were stung by bees in the woods, we ran through a field, choreographed a fight scene in the blistering heat, and more. Despite the elements, our team persevered.

I'm incredibly proud of this film. I'm proud of the amazing team that came together to help me tell this emotional and raw story of survival and desperation.
